I'm a queer, neurospicy counsellor working online (or f2f in Brighton!) - drop me a line :)

Whether or not you've had counselling before, it can be daunting trying to choose a therapist to work with, and then taking those first steps to meet your new therapist. I want to help make the process as easy as possible for you. That's why I offer a free informal consultation, which can happen online or over the phone, to help you decide if you'd like to work with me. I hope that you'll find me to be warm, engaged, and genuinely committed to finding solutions that are helpful to you!

About me and my practice

I am committed to antiracist practice and take active steps to examine my own white privilege and to challenge racism wherever I can.

I love working creatively - whether that's visually, imaginatively, with theatre/drama or more. These techniques wont suit everyone, but for some people a creative activity can spark the imagination and help the energy to flow when words fail us.

I mostly work online. Whilst a lot of counsellors only took this up during the pandemic, I already had years of experience working remotely - offering online video, phone calls or even webchat (where appropriate).

I do also offer face-to-face sessions from the Wilbury Clinic in central Hove (and supervision in Hove and in East Brighton), if that's convenient to you.

Some clients enjoy the flexibility of working face-to-face when possible, but continuing remotely when this isn't possible (such as for access needs, or because one of us spends some time away).

Experience

I have a lifetime's experience in queer activism, and over a decade's experience in counselling and listening roles. Having started out on an LGBTQ helpline, I went on to develop, administrate and manage various third sector and clinical counselling services, as well as growing my own private practice. I now also work as a consultant, trainer and supervisor to counsellors and other professionals.

I have particular experience working with,
-queer (LGBTQ+, trans/TNB), kinky and/or poly clients...
-young people (teens, youth, students etc.)
-neurospicy/neurodiverse folk (autism, ASC, ADD/ADHD etc.)
-disability and life-limiting illness
...and the intersections of these identities!

Some areas of expertise include,
-anxiety and depression
-suicidal distress
-grief, loss, and life-stage transition
-OCD
-EDs / disordered eating

Qualifications

I am proud to have qualified through the Wealden Institute's renowned Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling. This is a high-level (postgrad/level 7) BACP-Accredited course, with an excellent reputation for the quality of its graduates.

I also hold a Diploma in Supervision, recognizing my experience in the field and allowing me to supervise the work of colleagues - helping to ensure that the therapy they provide is safe, ethical and effective.

My practice is also shaped by an MA in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College (University of London), where I enjoyed reading subjects including Gender Studies, Marxist philosophy and classical Psychoanalysis...

Additional Information

I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and other professionals. I work from an Integrative Humanistic framework, and naturally, I hold a recognised Diploma in Supervision.

I'm especially excited to supervise your work with LGBTQ+ clients. This might be long-term, perhaps you're queer and/or specialise in working with these communities too?

But instead you may be working with a single trans client for the first time (for example), and feel that you need some ad-hoc support (perhaps in addition to your regular supervision elsewhere).

Alternatively, you may be seeking a supervisor who is neurodiverse, and/or works with neurodiverse clients?

I offer flexible arrangements at affordable rates, please do get in touch...

Initial Consultation

I like to offer a free informal consultation, online or over the phone, which can help you decide whether to work with me. We might take up to an hour with this, sometimes less. It's a chance for us to both get to know one another and to ask any questions that come to mind.

If you decide to work with me I will need to conduct an Assessment (completing paperwork with you). This can be done remotely, or face-to-face if you are local. The Assessment is to check that it is safe, ethical and appropriate for us to work together.

I accept referrals for both short-term and long-term work, depending on your need...

Fees

Fees for new clients are:

£50 per counselling hour (standard)
£37.50 per counselling hour for concessions (subject to availability - please ask!)
£60 per hour for clinical supervision (£40/hr for trainees)

When I Work

I offer weekday daytime and evening sessions on a flexible basis - please ask me about my availability.

Most clients meet at the same time every week, but some have changing timeslots and others work fortnightly or even monthly, depending on their individual circumstances.
